Press molds [Precision mold design and parts processing examples] Reduction of product burrs

Eliminate burrs through mold manufacturing that meets the product requirements sought by customers! Introducing a case study from an electronic components manufacturer.

When extracting thin products, it is necessary to set a significantly narrow punch-die clearance, but it is difficult to reliably achieve the set clearance in tolerance design. However, our company designs components from the design stage to realize narrow clearances, so we can custom-manufacture both fabricated and purchased parts. As a result, we can produce molds that meet the required specifications for the products our customers seek. 【Case Overview】 ■ Customer Industry: Electronic Component Manufacturer ■ Consultation Content: Desire to cut thin products sharply ■ Proposed Solution: Ultra-narrow clearance punching mold ■ Technology Used: Improvement of mold structure and component precision ■ Outcome: Eliminated previously unresolved punching burrs *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Press Mold [Precision Mold Case] Reduction of Chocolate Stops by Implementing Measures Against Scrap Rise

Introducing examples of parts processing technology using ±2μm precision achieved through the introduction of new processing machines!

At Nagumo Manufacturing, we prevent scrap accumulation and improve productivity by setting appropriate clearances, ensuring machining accuracy, and utilizing adjustment techniques to reduce downtime. We addressed the challenges faced by automotive parts manufacturers who were troubled by frequent downtime due to scrap accumulation. Our company implemented measures against scrap accumulation for these manufacturers. The average occurrence of scrap accumulation, which was happening 9 times a day, was improved to 0, resulting in a reduction in downtime and a significant increase in factory productivity. 【Overview】 ■ Customer Industry: Automotive parts manufacturing ■ Inquiry Details: Frequent scrap accumulation during press processing, causing machine stoppages and inefficiency ■ Proposed Solution: Recommendations for appropriate clearances and changes in part shapes ■ Technology Used: Introduction of a new processing machine for part machining with ±2μm precision ■ Results: Increased productivity *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Press Mold Special Edition: Mold Maker Column - What is the Hull Bottom Phenomenon?

In the mold shop column, we will be sharing various topics about molds from time to time! (We also publish the mold shop column on our Instagram.)

In this column, I will introduce the "boat bottom phenomenon"! When you want to punch out terminal shapes like those in the icon, processing each pitch as shown in Figure A results in a smaller area being held down during the punching process. This can lead to the stripper plate being unable to hold the product securely in the narrower areas, causing it to tilt due to the force of the punch coming down. This is known as the boat bottom phenomenon. The product that has tilted ends up resembling a boat bottom, hence the name. To avoid this, while changes in layout are necessary, one possible solution is to use a multiple pitch feed as shown in Figure B. In the case of multiple pitch feeding, a single group is punched out at once (all punches come down simultaneously), leaving no room for the product to tip over, thus preventing such issues. However, on the other hand, this will reduce the spacing between the dies, which raises concerns about the strength of the dies. It is necessary to determine specifications based on strength calculations.

Reducing running costs by considering clearance in press molds.

I have summarized the basic content regarding the impact of clearance discrepancies due to board thickness differences and the reduction of running costs achieved through uniform clearance.

Clearance (CL) refers to the gap between the punch and die of a mold. CL is set at 4-7% of the material thickness. The range of 4-7% is determined by the thickness of the material. In the PDF materials, we introduce: - Examples of clearance settings by material thickness: t=0.1mm / t=0.05mm / t=2.0mm - The impact of uneven clearance based on material thickness - The benefits of achieving uniform clearance Table of contents: - What is clearance? - How to set clearance - Examples of clearance by material thickness - Benefits of achieving uniform clearance

Press molds: Not only can we implement BCP measures with the purchase of molds from two companies, but we can also achieve 〇〇!

Specializing in sales types, we have a track record of producing over 10,000 molds! Contributing to quality and productivity improvements by resolving technical issues!

"I would like to purchase molds from two companies as a BCP measure, so could you provide some consultation?" Recently, we received this kind of inquiry from a customer. Molds are often extremely important in factories where production would stop without them, so it is crucial to have multiple suppliers that can respond immediately when needed. There are cases where the specifications of the mold become a quality bottleneck, such as when a situation arises like, "If we could make the part 2mm smaller, we could proceed with this design, but since the mold couldn't accommodate it, we had to make significant changes to the design." I have heard that recently, some clients are requesting dual sourcing. Our company has a department specialized in technical development that will do its utmost to address your technical issues, so if anything resonates with you, please feel free to contact us. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to reach out to us.*

Are you troubled by the short lifespan of punch dies?

Are you troubled by the short lifespan of punches and dies?

"We are troubled by the short lifespan of punch and die for press molds." "We cannot ensure the accuracy of the punch and die." "We want to improve the wear resistance of the punch and die." In response to the voices of our customers that we often hear during our sales activities, Nagumo Manufacturing proposes a processing method that differs from conventional electrical discharge machining. It is common to use carbide and hardened materials for punches and dies, and electrical discharge machining and grinding are the main methods for processing these hard materials. This document introduces the mechanism of electrical discharge machining and the disadvantages that arise from it, and we will propose processing methods aimed at resolving those disadvantages. Our company will exhibit at the Machine Elements Technology Exhibition in Osaka starting October 4th. We sincerely hope you will visit us. *For details about the exhibition, please refer to the basic information!
